Workshop on “Blockchain: Technological Fundamentals and Economic Case Studies” with Andrei Lankin, Wargaming

"It was very informative, but now I have even more questions". With these words, one of our Club members commented with evident enthusiasm on the experience he had just had. Just a few minutes before that, our expert and guest speaker Andrey Lankin's presentation on "Blockchain: Fundamentals and Applications in Economics" ended.

The presentation lasted for an hour and a half in the BonHotel conference hall, much longer than originally planned. With twenty years of professional experience, Andrei Lankin, information technology specialist and manager of Wargaming, allowed more than 25 seminar participants - DBWC members and partners - to peek behind the curtain of popular narratives on "blockchain", which has become something of a fashion statement today. At the beginning there was "a bit of maths", as the speaker himself put it, particularly the basics of the technology, hashing functions and validation via valid consensus forms. Terms such as "blockchain", "distributed database technology", "consensus" and other concepts were also reviewed and clarified to give participants an understanding of the topic.

This was followed by an explanation of the possible applications of blockchain technology in eight different industries and fields, accompanied by a brief SWOT analysis and specific examples and names of start-ups and companies currently working in the field. Mr Lankin's presentation led to continuous questions and comments from the participants. The detailed industry breakdown led to discussions on the problems of individual companies, members of our Club, which broadened the discussion and made it more informative.

Lively discussions with our guest and Club members then continued at the BonBistro Restaurant. In the end, everyone agreed that no matter how you feel about blockchain technology, it will have to be dealt with in the coming years.
